GPTZero (GPTZero.me), launched in early 2023 by a Princeton University undergraduate student, is considered the first commercially viable AI content detector and is likely the best-known tool for many.

Today, GPTZero is a well-established NYC-based startup with significant funding from respected venture capital firms. They offer a sophisticated platform with advanced AI tools like a plagiarism checker and authorship verifier.

Their AI detector is designed for a broad user base, serving anyone interested in authentic content, not just students. According to GPTZero, their solutions (including API) are used by many enterprise clients, including Fortune 1000 and Unicorn AI companies.
